March 2020 TBR

So I spun the wheel....and I ended up with 7 books that really aren't that diverse (in terms of genre, anyway). Thanks a lot, wheel. Here is a link to my prompts if you missed it.

Spin 1

Prompt: Ugliest cover

This is going to be down to interpretation. But I went for How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. This is one of those books that gets referenced a lot. I don't know how informative a book that was first published in 1936 will be, but why not; let's see if I become the most popular person ever and can control the lot of them. Overview: The title says it all. A self help book about popularity. I really should have read this in school...

Prediction: 3 stars Goodreads

Spin 2

Prompt: Highest rated (not owned)

From organising this Goodreads lists by average rating, I ended up with Know My Name by Chanel Miller. I have been dying to read this since November last year but was too cheap to buy it. But look at that....I still paid £10 because the wheel said so, I'm just reading it 5 months later than I wanted to. Wheel is God. This has been on many top 10 best non-fiction of 2019 lists. Overview: This is the highly acclaimed memoir by 'Emily Doe' (real name Chanel Miller) coming forward after the Brock Turner case. She talks about the assault as well as how isolated she felt during the trial as her identity was not revealed until now. Trigger warning for graphic description of sexual assault. Prediction: 5 stars

Spin 3

Prompt: Booktuber 2019 Favourite

More shopping. Next month I actually hope to only get prompts that let me pick from my own selection. Or I will be in trouble real quick. Of course I went for Kayla's video and chose the book that not only was one I was interested in, but also the cheapest to get hold of... Wilder Girls by Rory Power. I'm excited for this - it sounds like a more twisted version of Lord of The Flies. I'm ready to be horrified. Overview: A boarding school for girls goes into quarantine when some kind of toxin breaks out. Strange mutations start occurring. Quite gruesome body horror. Prediction: 4 stars Goodreads

Spin 4

Prompt: Big Book

Any book over 500 pages and hitting a tasty 507 is The Seven and a Half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. I've heard this one is a a slow burn which I'm not really in favour of when it comes to thrillers but a lot of people enjoy it.

Overview: Evelyn Hardcastle dies 7 1/2 times (who would've guessed it) and the day of her murder is repeated until the mystery is solved. Prediction: 3.5 stars Goodreads

Spin 5

Prompt: Lowest rated (owned)

Well the wheel can be cruel. But my lowest rated book was The Silent Wife by A.S.A Harrison at 3.30. Not that low?? I don't know a whole lot about this one but any thriller sounds good to me! Overview: Psychological thriller about a marriage that has taken a bad turn. She is the murderer, he is the victim....has similarities to Gone Girl. Prediction: 3 stars

Spin 6

Prompt: Waterstones Giftcard

I like to be difficult when it comes to a gift card. Exclusive editions and pretty stained edges only! So of course I'm going for Feminists Don't Wear Pink and Other Lies, a collection of essays curated by Scarlett Curtis. This is more considered YA but anything preaching feminism I AM HERE FOR. And pink stained edges? Please. This book is a beaut.

Overview: Personal stories and statements written by actors, writers and activists exploring feminism. Prediction: 4 stars Goodreads

Spin 7

Prompt: Charity Shop Buy

Even more shopping. But at least it was £3. I managed to find The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware! How, you ask? No idea, thank you very much Oxfam. This will be my first Ruth Ware book and it comes highly recommended; I am ready to be terrified.

Overview: A young nanny takes on a dream post at a beautiful home in the Scottish Highlands owned by an idyllic family. Of course, everything goes horribly wrong.

Prediction: 4 stars

So there's the lot! (I've decided officially bookstagram is not for me). I needed to take this photo from the side because....do you SEE the pink stained edges? The llama cactus approves.
